First the teams ... 2012 FCS Conferences and Teams There are 122 FCS teams in 2012.No more Great West Football Conference.No Independents.111 teams are eligible for the postseason (take out the Ivy League and three APR barred).Subtract the two teams that play in the SWAC Championship plus the various Classic games and that leaves 108 -- give or take.20 teams get into the tournament.In 2011 only 61 teams finished the year with six or more wins.
Yes, schools that sponsor NCAA championship football also challenge for the NCAA basketball trophy. FBS schools don't (they do not win an NCAA football championship) but FCS schools do. Georgetown, Villanova, La Salle and Holy Cross have all won the basketball championship... but only Villanova has also won the football trophy.
