Charleston, IL--I am ready for some football with the Mid-America Classic in a hot and steamy Charleston with temperatures right now at 98 degrees between the Redbirds and Panthers. This is the 100th meeting between these two teams. This is the first year these teams will be playing for this trophy.
This is legendary coach Bob Spoo's final season with EIU. This is 25th season for the Panthers. He holds a 10-10-1 record against ISU. ISU holds the all-time record with a 51-39-9.

I have often said how little a fan I am of these non-FCS matchups we endure every year. Yes FBS teams pay well and we pay good enough to non-Division I teams, but there are things I don't understand.
Probably the biggest aspect is how many FCS fans are deep-down FBS wannabes. They LOVE when their FCS team plays at an FBS school. I have a feeling they think to themselves (and some belligerently out loud) that this is "real" college football. Same type of mentality
It's a brand new year, with no mistakes yet in it, as I undertake another vague attempt at entertaining, and informing with my FCS picks.
Tune in tomorrow for my picks over the weekend, but check out my picks for all the games involving FCS teams tonight.
No need for a sentence on these:

Morehead State 28, Kentucky Christian (NAIA) 17
(18) Stephen F. Austin 70, McMurry (NAIA) 5

Let's see. New offense. New unis. Renewed hope.
Western Carolina brings all three to downtown Atlanta Sept. 1 as the first team in the So South region - the Southern and Big South conferences - to take the field in the 2011 season. They'll look good in the new uniforms and will seek to look good in the new Pistol offense. Head coach Dennis Wagner and staff installed the Pistol after visiting and researching the offense at a few FBS schools. Of course, like all the other schools, the
Defending champion Southern Utah is the favorite coming into this 2011 season.
