College Sporting News is pleased to use this one day to celebrate the choices, dreams and aspirations of these fine football student-athletes and the institutions that provide the opportunity.

It is a big day for the student-athletes signifying their intent to participate in the football programs at the schools and conferences of the Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

Of course all the conference and schools do not announce their lists at the same time so the following list is in progress but we'll update it as soon as we get the news. Later on schools may announce more so check their websites for updates but these are the ones announced on this special day.

Here are the 2013 Signing Day Reports:

A Note On Computer Ratings

Since College Sporting News produces the Gridiron Power Index (GPI)...

Since College Sporting News produces the Gridiron Power Index (GPI) which is officially used by the NCAA D-I Football Championship Committee, I can speak with knowledge of computer rating systems that measure the Football Championship Subdivision (FCS).

The public GPI uses seven systems advised by Dr. Kenneth Massey as being representative as the best but one is different than the others. In conversations with the owners of these systems, all but one measured all the opponents of FCS teams and thereby produced valid results. The one that does not is the ratings of Jeff Sagarin.

The Sagarin ratings are created solely for use by the FBS in the Bowl Championship Series (BCS) since the beginning of the BCS. Dr. Massey has also created ratings used by the BCS since the beginning. The difference is the ratings by Massey are also valid for the FCS.

Sagarin treats all non-D-I schools the same. From D-II to NAIA, they all have the same rating in his system. So the 50+ games involving non-D-I squads are rated incorrectly. I asked him if he would consider rating all the teams and he refused. The Massey ratings comprehensively rates all teams correctly.

In the request from the NCAA for the GPI they stipulated that we not include the Sagarin ratings.

So please consider these facts when considering the Sagarin ratings alone. In fact, Massey advised that the GPI should use multiple ratings in such a way to achieve the best results. The GPI reflects this as being a top indicator of at-large playoff selection since the GPI began.

When it's the best conference (Missouri Valley Football Conference) so far in 2012 you can expect most games to be contested even if your opponent is unranked. #6 South Dakota State found that out this week in the MVFC getting pasted 27-6 at Northern Iowa. #9 Illinois State and #15 Youngstown State faced similar fates losing to Missouri State and Southern Illinois respectively.

Falling to Colonial Athletic Association foes were #10 James Madison to Richmond and #18 Old Dominion to #24 Towson. Also, #14 Wofford strolled into "The Rock" at #11 Appalachian State and came out with the win.

In probably the biggest losses for ranked teams, #13 Harvard had Ivy League mate Princeton nip their bud while #19 Tennessee State was toppled in overtime at Jacksonville State.

Outside South Dakota State, eight of the top ten were able to escape defeat.
