  • 2013 Gridiron Power Index (GPI): Movements Abound Behind #1 NDSU

North Dakota State keeps their grip on #1 in the Gridiron Power Index (GPI), the index ranking for the NCAA Division I FCS and a top indicator of at-large playoff selection. The Bison have firmly held the top spot since 2011. Three teams dropped out of the top 25, Eastern Kentucky plummeting the most at 17 places from 16 to 33. Jacksonville State climbed the most of any team in this week's top 25, moving up 14 spots from 31 to 17.

The Missouri Valley Football Conference has six teams in the top 25; the Big Sky Conference and Colonial Athletic Association have four each; the Southland and Ohio Valley Conferences have two each; and the Big South Conference, Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference, Patriot and Ivy Leagues plus the Independents have one each. (Games through 11/10/13)

The conference average rankings are holding fairly steady at the top. The Missouri Valley Football Conference is solid in first, the Colonial Athletic Association and the Southland Conference changed places again at two and three, and the Ohio Valley and Big Sky Conferences round out the top five.

The Final 2013 GPI will be released once all the college football games have been played, in January 2014.
