Appalachian State quarterback DeAndre Presley, Jacksonville State quarterbacks Coty Blanchard and Marquis Ivory, Massachusetts linebacker Tyler Holmes and North Dakota State place kicker Ryan Jastram have been selected as the College Sporting News All-Stars for the season-opening week of NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision play.
It was not suppose to happen — not this year. No FCS team that finished its prior season with just three victories has a chance to defeat a FBS, let alone a BCS conference team.
Of all the FCS teams playing FBS teams, this matchup was not expected to be the one of two in the opening weekend to see the lower Division I team defeat their higher Division I brethrens.
After a long wait, at last, football is here. I am in Iowa City, Iowa today covering the Eastern Illinois - Iowa game that starts at 11:00am Central time. Hoping for a good game from these Panthers...
I'll repeat something that I always feel about the first couple weeks of the FCS, they are my least favorite.
It's not because the teams are rusty, not because the newer coaches are still refining...
