FCS National All-Stars 9/6/2010

Appalachian State quarterback DeAndre Presley, Jacksonville State quarterbacks Coty Blanchard and Marquis Ivory, Massachusetts linebacker Tyler Holmes and North Dakota State place kicker Ryan Jastram have been selected as the College Sporting News All-Stars for the season-opening week of NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision play.

CSN West: A ‘Whale’ of a Victory over a BCS school

It was not suppose to happen — not this year. No FCS team that finished its prior season with just three victories has a chance to defeat a FBS, let alone a BCS conference team.

Of all the FCS teams playing FBS teams, this matchup was not expected to be the one of two in the opening weekend to see the lower Division I team defeat their higher Division I brethrens.

Well, tell that to the North Dakota State Bison.

A Weekend of Big Wins – and Big Losses

The First weekend of the 2010 college football season turned out to be pretty good. So I’m told.

In the full disclosure mode, I have to admit that I didn’t make it to a game. My daughter got married this weekend, which I guess would be one of the few reasons I would bypass the opportunity to attend a FCS game. Thanks to the technology of the Internet and satellite TV, however, I did see a good bit of the Presbyterian College-Wake Forest game Thursday night, the first quarter and a half of Liberty vs. St. Francis, and much of the exciting Appalachian State win over Chattanooga. So I guess you could say my first weekend mirrored Furman’s – an open date. Anyway, it’s still good to comment on the weekend’s action.
