GPI 11/09/2010, Hens, Tribe Give CAA Top Two Spots

Playoff-Bound Robert Morris Makes Its First Appearance in This Week's Top 25; Upsets Cause CAA to Occupy the No. 1 and No. 2 Spots in the Index; Georgia Southern Leaps Back Into the Index at No. 22


CHICAGO - The Gridiron Power Index (GPI), the index ranking for the NCAA Division I FCS and a top indicator of at-large playoff selection has Delaware back on top after the previous No. 1-ranked team in the GPI, Appalachian State, fell 21-14 to previously unranked Georgia Southern this past weekend.

Following a week of big upsets - including two formerly unbeaten teams falling from the undefeated ranks - the Blue Hens and William & Mary ended 1 and 2 in the GPI this week, capping another week where the Colonial Athletic Association nabbed a total of seven spots in the Top 25. The team that knocked out the Mountaineers from the top spot, Georgia Southern, reappeared in the Top 25 this week at No. 22. The Southern Conference finds four teams in the Top 25 this week.

With their resounding win over Central Connecticut State, Robert Morris, champions of the NEC and playoff-bound for the first time in school history, enter the poll this week at No. 24.

The Big Sky Conference maintained five teams in the Top 25, while Indiana State's loss to division-leading Northern Iowa cause the Missouri Valley Conference to drop its representation to four. The Ohio Valley Conference once again has two teams in the Top 25, and to round out the top spots Cal Poly of the Great West Conference and Stephen F. Austin out of the Southland fill the final two Top 25 slots.
