College Sporting News National All-Stars, 11/7/2011

QB T.J. Pryor of Eastern Kentucky, RB Terrance West of Towson, QB Riko Smalls of Texas Southern, DB James Pitts of Villanova, and Drake K Billy Janssen have been selected as the College Sporting News All-Stars for the week ending November 6, 2011 in the NCAA Division I Football Championship Subdivision.

Each of the honorees are listed here with their achievements and their school, position, height, weight, class and hometown.

T.J. Pryor, Eastern Kentucky, Quarterback, 6-2, 193, Jr., Louisville, KY

Pryor led Eastern Kentucky back from a 24-point fourth quarter deficit to top Jacksonville State 52-48 on the road and claim sole possession of first place in the OVC. He completed 16-of-26 passes for a season-high 282 yards and a school-record five touchdowns and rushed for an additional 20 yards. With his team trailing 48-24 with 7:25 to play in the game, Pryor led the team on drives of 64, 58 and 37 yards over the next 6:01, throwing touchdown passes to Cameron Bailey (60 yards, 6:42 left in the game), Justin Williams (18 yards, 4:14 left in the game) and Tyrone Goard (37 yards, 1:24 left in the game) to complete the improbable comeback. Pryor also had touchdown passes of 29 and 42 yards (both to Goard) in the first half. In the process the junior moved into second place on EKU’s all-time passing list with 5,055 yards.

Terrance West, Towson, Runningback, 5-11, 222, Fr., Baltimore, MD

West led the Tigers to a 40-30 win at league-leading Maine and carried the ball a season-high 21 times gaining a season-high 183 yards and three touchdowns in the win. West has rushed for 100-or-more yards in five straight games for Towson and leads the country in scoring at 14 points per game.

Riko Smalls, Texas Southern, Quarterback, 6-2, 185, So., Plano, TX

Smalls threw for a career-high 365 yards and three touchdowns and ran for a score to lead Texas Southern to a 29-14 victory over Southern. He gained 109 yards on 16 carries and went 26 of 39 passing for a combined 436 yards of total offense. He started the scoring night with a seven yard scoring pass to Richard Samuels, then scored again on a four yard run (which included a two-point conversion by Samuels). In the second half he added scoring missives of 46 and 13 yards to finish the win.

James Pitts, Villanova, Defensive back, 6-0, 185, Sr., Montclair, NJ

Pitts hauled in three interceptions in pacing Villanova's defense to six forced turnovers and a win at Massachusetts, 35-17. He also garnered seven tackles and added a pass deflection to his performance. His three picks marked the first Wildcat to haul in three INTs in a single-game since Orin Solomon did it against New Hampshire in 1990. On the year Pitts has a league-best five interceptions, including one for a touchdown.

Billy Janssen, Drake, Kicker, 6-4, 202, Sr., Round Lake Beach, IL

Janssen averaged 48.7 yards on six punts, including a PFL record 83-yard boot, in Drake’s 31-24 victory against Jacksonville. His 83-yard punt is among the FCS top-20 punts all-time and was part of 292 punting yards, placing one punt inside the 20-yard line. He had two punts over 50 yards and had four touchbacks. Jacksonville attempted one return on those six punts and lost yardage on the try. He also connected on a 43-yard field goal to open the scoring and converted each of his four PATs.
