The Offensive Player of the Year choice is quarterback Benjamin “Ben” Anderson, 6-3 200-pounds, of the SWAC and a member of the 2012 SWAC Champion Arkansas-Pine Bluff Golden Lions. The Defensive Player of the Year pick is Jarkevis Fields, a 6-0, 230-pound senior linebacker playing for the Bethune-Cookman Wildcats and the 2012 MEAC Champions.
HBCU Major Division Preseason Offensive Player Of The Year:
Arkansas-Pine Bluff quarterback Benjamin “Ben” Anderson
He was chosen as our Preseason SWAC Offensive Player of the Year. The QB from Parkview High School from Little Rock, AR helped lead the Golden Lions to the SWAC Championship in Birmingham, AL in 2012. He compiled 2,346 passing yards and 16 touchdowns. He was also selected as the SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year. The All-SWAC redshirt junior quarterback Ben Anderson was the MVP of the 2012 SWAC Championship Game.
HBCU Major Division Preseason Defensive Player Of The Year:
Jarkevis Fields, a 6-0, 230-pound senior linebacker
He was selected as the MEAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year. Jarkevis is from Sanford, FL and led the Wildcats with 103 tackles, six tackles for losses and a sack last season. Jarkevis Fields has the ability to drop back into coverage and make a plays, which included breaking up four passes, supporting the Wildcats defense, that finished third nationally in interceptions. In 2012, Fields was named to the First Team All-MEAC and received the Army Strong Leadership Award at the Florida Blue Florida Classic as well as he was the recipient of the MEAC/SWAC Challenge Walter Payton Achievement Award.

1st Team Offense
QB Benjamin Anderson (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, 6-3, 200, JR, Little Rock, AR/Parkview HS)
The product from Parkview High School from Little Rock, AR helped lead the Golden Lions to the SWAC Championship and became victories in Birmingham, AL in 2012. He compiled 2,346 passing yards and 16 touchdowns.
RB Isaiah Crowell (Alabama State University, 5-11, 190, JR, Columbus, GA/Carver HS)
A two time First Team Dr. Cavil All-American running back Isaiah Crowell, recorded 842 rushing yards with 15 touchdowns for the Hornets in 2012.
RB Isidore Jackson, (Bethune-Cookman University, 5-10, 205, SR, Mossy Head, FL/Walton HS)
Jackson, a two time to Dr. Cavil’s All-American First Team produced for the Wildcats last season with 191 carries for 1,132 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns.
TE A.C. Leonard (Tennessee State University, 6-4, 245, JR, Jacksonville, FL/University of Florida)
Florida native contributed for the Tigers 51 receptions for 733 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns last season.
WR Ladarius Eckwood (University of Arkansas Pine Bluff, 6-1, 185, rSR, Springdale, AR/Springdale HS)
Leading receiver for the SWAC in 2012, Ladarius recorded 52 receptions for 787 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns.
WR Simon Heyward, (Savannah State University, 5-11, 185, SR, Savannah, GA/Beach HS)
The senior from Savannah, GA recorded 44 receptions for 751 receiving yards and 6 touchdowns for the Tigers last fall.
C Brandon Cunningham, rSR, (Delaware State University, 6-2, 205, Lumberton, NJ/Rancocas Valley HS)
Brandon Cunningham supported the Hornets O-Line that ranked 4th in Total Offense in the MEAC with 3,916 and 28 touchdowns in 2012.
OL Kenny Eagle (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, 6-4, 305, SR, Knox, IN/New Mexico Military Institute)
Eagle reinforced the O-Line to be ranked 1st in Rushing Offense with 2403 rushing yards with 19 touchdowns for the Golden Lions in 2012.
OL Tre Glover (Prairie View A&M University, 6-3, 280, rJR, Waskom, TX/Marshall HS)
Tre Glover provided stability to the offensive line in which the Panthers of PVAMU were ranked in 2012 3rd in Scoring Offense in the SWAC with 305 pts.
OL Kevin House, (Florida A&M University, 6-3, 300, rJr, Jacksonville, FL/Ed White HS)
The redshirt junior from Jacksonville, FL anchored the Rattlers O-line as they ranked 3rd in Total Offense in the MEAC with 3,949 yards and 26 touchdowns last season.
OL Edmund Davis (Alabama State University, 6-1, 280, rSR, Montgomery, AL/Carver HS)
Davis experiences and leadership continues to give the Hornets in what they need to have a successful season. He is the core of ASU O-Line in which they were ranked 1st in Scoring Offense in the SWAC with 352 pts.
1st Team Defense
DL Robert Simpson (Mississippi Valley State University, 6-3, 267, SR, Gulfport, MS/Biloxi HS)
In 2012, He finished fourth in the SWAC in sacks with seven while recording two fumbles and 59 tackles (29 solo). At the end of the year, he was named to the All-SWAC First Team defense at the defensive tackle position.
DL Damien Lee (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, 6-3, 260, SR, Little Rock, AR/Central High School)
Lee produced 18 solos 13 assist 31 total tackles for the Golden Lions last year for the 2013 season
DL LeBrandon Richardson, (Bethune-Cookman University, 6-2, 255, JR, Miami, FL/UCF/Miami Central HS)
Richardson recorded 30 solos 23 assists with a combined total of 53 tackles last season for the Wildcats.
DL DeMarcus Berry (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, 6-3, 250, SO, Alexandria, LA/Alexandria HS)
The Louisiana native recorded 7 solos 8 assist 15 total tackles helping the Golden Lions ranked 2nd in Total Defense in the SWAC in 2012.
LB Jer-Ryan Harris (University of Arkansas at Pine Bluff, 6-1, 225, SR, Memphis, TN/Arlington HS)
Senior Linebacker Jer-Ryan Harris accumulated 54 solos 44 assists 1 sack with a combined total of 98 tackles for the Golden Lions last season.
LB Ernest Adjei, (Delaware State University, 6-0, 230, SR, Woodbridge, VA/Gar-Field HS)
Ernest produced for the Hornets 49 solos 44 assists with a combined total of 93 tackles last season.
LB Jarkevis Fields, (Bethune-Cookman University, 6-0, 230, SR, Sanford, FL/Seminole HS)
Senior Wildcat from Seminole High School compiled 46 solos 57 assists 1 sack with a combined total of 103 tackles last year.
DB Qua Cox (Jackson State University, 6-0, 185, rSR, Tuskegee, AL)
The SWAC Preseason Defensive Player of the Year and was placed on the Buck Buchanan watch for the 2013 preseason. Qua Cox closed the year with 50 tackles (36 solo) including five for a loss on a defensive unit that led the league in sacks with 43.
DB Nick Addison, (Bethune-Cookman University, 6-2, 180, JR, Tampa, FL/Spoto HS)
The junior Wildcat sensation produced 37 solos 31 assist with a combined total of 68 tackles and 4 interceptions for 135 yards and 1 touchdown.
DB D’Vonte Graham, (North Carolina A&T State University, 5-7, 160, SR, Tallahassee, FL/Lincoln HS)
D’Vonte recorded 43 solos 45 assists with a combined total for the Aggies 88 tackles in 2012.
DB Steven Godbolt III, (Tennessee State University, 6-1, 180, JR, Cross City, FL/Dixie County HS)
Last Season, defensive back Steven Godbolt III led all of FCS in interceptions with six. His performance earned him All-American honors by four publications.
1st Team Specialist
P/PK Bobby Wenzig (Alabama State University, 6-2, 180, SR, San Diego, CA San Diego, CA /Westview HS)
He gathered more All-America honors at the end of 2012 in academics and athletics, more than any other SWAC football player.
KR Ka'Jandre' Domino (Grambling State University, 5-10, 175, Baton Rouge, LA /Scotlandville HS)
Ka’Jandre’ recorded 19 returns for 426 yards for the G-Men in 2012.
P Nick Belcher, (South Carolina State University, 5-9, 200, rSR, Sumter, SC/Lakewood HS)
Nick was 8 for 15 on field goals attempts for a 53.3 percent average with a long of 47 yards last season.
