Illinois State @ Northern Iowa

CEDAR FALLS, IA--I am in Cedar Falls today to see Northern Iowa host Illinois State on the Panthers' homecoming game. It is dark and dreary outside and rained a little this morning here in town. Illinois State is coming off a win against North Dakota State last week and UNI came home with a road victory at the Great West's South Dakota.

Turnovers have hurt the Panthers in weeks path so I think if they can hold onto the ball that they will have win today but it should be a closely contested game.

    UNI takes the opeing series 55 yards and is topped off by a 12 yard reception by Josh Collins from Tirrell Rennie to put the Panthers up 7-0. We have 12:20 left in the opening qtr.

    Illinois State drives to their own 39 but were forced to punt. UNI takes over again at their own 20 following the punt. 9:05 left in the 1st.

    ISU intercepted a Terrell Rennie pass at midfield to take over on the next possession.

    ISU does nothing after the INT. Their punt pins UNI down at their own 6 yard line.

    ISU drives to the UNI 16 yard line but the drive stalled there. Steven Fetzer's FG attempt misses with 11 seconds left. UNI downs the ball to send us to the half.

    Halftime stats: UNI 148 total yards. ISU 107 total yards. UNI with one turnover, ISU with none. Tirrell Rennie is the leading ground gainer for the Panthers with 54 yards and a touchdown.

    ISU fumbled the opening kickoff but UNI couldn't do anything with it and was forced to punt.

    ISU took the ensuing drive 91 yards on 14 plays to half the UNI lead. The scoring drive ended with a Tyrone Walker 12 yard catch from Matt Brown at the 7:22 mark of the 3rd qtr.

    UNI just took the next kick off back inside the ISU 20 but an illegal block moves them back to the ISU 35 yard line.

    UNI scored on that drive on a 11 yard T. Rennie run.

    ISU's next possession saw a 62 yard INT return for a touchdown by Andre Martin of UNI to put UNI up 28-7 with 1:20 left in the 3rd qtr.

UNI takes that possesion 55 yards for a score with the touchdown scored by quarterback Tirrell Rennie with a 47 yard scamper on 3rd down. We have 13:40 left in the 4th qtr and UNI is turning this game into an big margin. UNI 35 ISU 7.

    Well, maybe not this game is not over yet. ISU scores on a 80 yard pass in 20 seconds on a Matt Lancaster pass to Tyrone Walker. We have 13:20 left.

    UNI answers right back and believe this game is pretty much over. Rennie scores from a yard out to end a 12 play, 59 yard drive. UNI 42 ISU 14 with 6:32 to go in the game.
