North Dakota State @ Eastern Washington

I am getting ready for the West battle of the Missouri Valley vs. the Big Sky last remaining playoff participants. I dubbed this the West championship game in my column this week and likely the winner of this game will play Villanova--in Cheney if EWU wins since they are a seed--No. 5. Villanova is leading #1 seed Appalachian State 42-24 at this point with just under 8:00 left in the fourth quarter. It would be unclear if NDSU or Villanova would host their clash if they would both win but one might assume that the 19,000 filled Fargodome would be hard to overlook if it is a meeting of two unseeded teams.

This game should be a battle of defenses and ground games, although Bo Levi Mitchell does have the better of the throwing matchups. D.J. McNorton of NDSU and Taiwan Jones of EWU should provide the running game.

The red turfed Roos Field is actually relatively warm today with temperatures around the freezing mark or slightly higher. The forecast still is calling for snow showers.

I think this will be a closely fought defensive game with the winner getting the turnover margin.

    The field ruling stands so it will NDSU 1st & 10 at the EWU 21.

    NDSU has a 3rd and 6 at the 7.

    Jensen runs down in between the 1 and 2 yard lines. It is 4th and a 1/2 yard.

    NDSU doesn't make. DT Williams breaks up the play. Jensen tried to pass. EWU takes over at the 1 and a 1/2.

    NDSU's Marcus Williams intercepts Mitchell and returns it for a touchdown. The return is six yards. We are again tied, 24 a piece with 8:44 left in the 3rd qtr.

    EWU returns the ensuing kickoff back to the 42.

    Third straight turnover for the Eagles. Mitchell fumbles a qb draw play. NDSU returns it to the EWU 31.

    The Eagles JC Sherritt just hit the 400 mark on tackles, which is an all time EWU record.

    NDSU can't do much with the fumble recovery. The Bison actually go backwards. It is 4th & 14 at the 35.

    They will punt it and is fair caught at the 12.

    Jones with an intial run of 23.

    EWU goes backwards from their with a sack of Mitchell and also dodged another turnover as Jones gets it back on the 3rd down play. EWU to punt and NDSU fair catches it at the NDSU 37.

    Jensen fumbles on a sack and EWU recovers at the NDSU 27.

    EWU is stopped after a gain of six yards down to the Bison 21. EWU will try a 38 yard field goal from Jarrett. The attempt is blocked. We remain tied with 0:22 left. NDSU takes over at their own 31.

    We should have a great final qtr. EWU 24 NDSU 24. The snow is coming down heavy now and starting to accumulate as we head to the 4th qtr.

    NDSU goes three and out. NDSU will be punting and it goes out of bounds at the EWU 26.

    Footing is bad. Jones and Mario Brown have both slipped on two plays. It is 3rd & 15. Mitchell throws it up for grabs and NDSU's Josh Gatlin picks him off. NDSU is at the EWU 23.

    NDSU gains 9 yards but OL Austin Richard gets a personal foul so it is 3rd & 16 from the 29.

    Siegers gets the ball down to 25. NDSU's Jastram comes on to a 42 yard attempt and EWU blocks this kick. We remain tied with 11:01 left.
