Charleston, IL--I am ready for some football with the Mid-America Classic in a hot and steamy Charleston with temperatures right now at 98 degrees between the Redbirds and Panthers. This is the 100th meeting between these two teams. This is the first year these teams will be playing for this trophy.

This is legendary coach Bob Spoo's final season with EIU. This is 25th season for the Panthers. He holds a 10-10-1 record against ISU. ISU holds the all-time record with a 51-39-9. The two teams first met in 1901.

ISU's coach Brock Spack is in his third season with a 12-10 overall mark thus far.

Last year, EIU finished just 2-9 but did win two of their final three contests. ISU finished last year at 6-5 and was probably just one win away from the playoffs.


In the preseason rankings, EIU is selected fifth in the preseason Ohio Valley poll. ISU is selected also fifth in their conference of the Missouri Valley Football Conference.

Tonight's game is also being broadcast regionally on Comcast Chicago and kickoff is slated for 6:37 Central.

ISU won last year's contest 27-23 to end last season's schedule for both teams in a game that had five lead changes.

I believe this game will also be similar to the that ended last season. I think the road time will come out on top but probably in a similar back and forth fashion.

    But the Panthers have it at 3rd and 6 at the ISU 15.

    Pass on third down is caught by Lorence Ricks to get the Panthers a 1st and goal at the 5.

    That was the last play of the 3rd qtr. EIU will have it at 1st and goal at the five to start the fourth qtr.

    Jimmy Lera gets it to the 1. 2nd and goal

    Garoppolo with the quarterback keeper and that 1 yard plunge into the end zone ties the game at 19 each. We have 14:18 left in the game.

    ISU fumbles the short kickoff out of bounds at their own 27 but their is an offsides on EIU so we will re-kick.

    ISU gets a little better field possession out to the 32 with the penalty, however, an illegal block foul is called on the Redbirds starting this drive at their own 18.

    An incomplete pass and a four yard run by Leggett has ISU at 3rd and 6 at the 22.

    A big pass to Sanders has ISU out to their own 48.

    Leggett with a nice catch but he fumbles and EIU recovers at their own 43. We have 12:00 exactly left in the game.

    EIU gets a nice catch from Adam Drake on a 3rd and 6 play to keep the drive going.

    Ricks get the score from Garoppolo from 42 yards out to give EIU the lead back. EIU 26-19 with 9:52 left in the game.

    I don't think the scoring is done in this game though as it seems this second half has opened things up offensively.

    Big return for the Redbirds has them out to their own 49.

    Two short gains has ISU with a 3rd down and four.

    Brown completes his pass to Neblett to keep the drive going.

    Leggett scores from three yards out with 7:03 left in the game. The extra point by Aussieker is good and we are tied at 26.

    Big kickoff return to the EIU 41 by Ricks and their is also a late hit by ISU to set EIU 15 yards further down field. It is 1st and 10 for EIU at the ISU 47.

    Three big runs by AJ Woodson has EIU is scoring range at the 25.

    Whittaker with a 9 yard catch and a Woodson with a two yard run has EIU with a 1 & 10 at the 13.
