Northern Iowa @ Iowa, Sept. 15

IOWA CITY, Iowa--I am in Kinnick Stadium today to see if UNI can do a little better against their second Big 10 game of the year. Remember, UNI narrowly lost to Wisconsin two weeks ago 26-21 and had a chance with the ball late to take the lead.

Last week, the Panthers had little opposition when they played their first home game of the year against DII Central (OH) State--winning 59-0.

It was just three years ago when UNI almost beat the Hawkeyes when they had two chances for a game winning field goal but had both attempts blocked for a 17-16 Iowa win.

This year, Iowa looks down after narrowly beating Northern Illinois and losing to in-state rival Iowa State.

To me, Iowa looks ripe for an upset and I would not be suprised if UNI travels north to Cedar Falls with a victory.

It is an absolute perfect day for football with temperatures currently in the mid-70s with almost no clouds in the sky.

This is my fifth or sixth trip to this stadium and the first time the game will start away from the 11:00am Central start.

The second half of the Wisconsin game impressed me with the play of redshirt freshman Sawyer Kollmorgan. He should some normal freshman jidders in the first half but seemed to grow up in the later half of play.

After playing in Wisconsin, I don't think any of the UNI players will be intimidated by the 70,000+ in this stadium.

I have called a couple upsets already this year and I am going to call another one today. I will take UNI by a late field goal that won't be blocked this time like it was three years ago.

But we shall see, Iowa seems to start slow each year and then grows so turnovers will play a key role in this one that I believe is two evenly matched teams.

    UNI won the coin toss and will receive the opening kickoff to start the game.

    Carlos Anderson takes the kickoff out of the end zone and was a bad decision as he only gets to the UNI 17.

    David Johnson with a nice seven yard gain on first down and a 30 yard reception on the next play. UNI moving at the Iowa 46.

    Brett LeMaster with great catch to the Iowa 23 for another first down.

    The Panthers have another nice run by Johnson and a nice catch by Terrell Sinkfield to set up a first in goal at the Iowa 9.

    A false start sends UNI back to the Iowa 14 at 1st & goal.

    That Johnson run was for 12 to the 2 and he keeps on a wildcat play to the 1 to set up a 3rd & goal from the 1.

    The Panthers run the wildcat again with Johnson and he gets in for the UNI touchdown. PAT is good.

    UNI 7 Iowa 0 with 10:36 left in the 1st qtr.

    The only problem on the opening drive was the false start for the Panthers. Other than that UNI just marched right down the field with little opposition to getting into the end zone.

    The UNI kickoff is downed in the end zone but there is a foul on the play. UNI with a bad play after the play with a personal foul call on Deiondre' Hall.

    Damon Bullock with a three yard gain for Iowa on first down and another seven on the second down play to get Iowa out to mid-field.

    TE C.J. Fiedorowicz with a six yard reception from James Vandenberg on the 1st down play. Bullock gets four for another first down for the Hawkeyes.

    1st & 10 at the UNI 40. We have 8:10 left in the opening qtr.

    Bullock with two runs for the Hawkeyes for three yards each to set up a 3rd & 4 for Iowa at the UNI 34. Wilmot Wellington got shaken up a little on the last play but looks like it was just the wind knocked out of him and was up rather quickly.

    On the 3rd down play, Bullock breaks free on a sweep to left for a big gain to the UNI 7--gain of 27 for a 1st & goal for Iowa.

    Bullock runs twice again for Iowa to get the Hawkeyes down to the 1. 3rd & goal from the 1. FB Mark Wiesman gets the ball in from the 1 and the PAT is good to get the tying score.

    UNI 7 Iowa 7 with 5:25 left in the opening qtr.

    The Iowa kickoff is downed for a touchback. It will be 1st & 10 for the Panthers at their own 25.

    LeMaster with a nice catch for 23 where he was wide open to the UNI 47.

    Johnson gets four on the next play on a run and Anderson for nine to the Iowa 39.

    Kollmorgon with his first incompletion on the 1st down play. Anderson runs for two on the 2nd down play to set up a 3rd & 8 at the Iowa 37.

    Anderson with the catch but just for five so we have the games' first 4th down.

    UNI will attempt a 49 yard field goal from Tyler Sievertsen and it would have been good from 10 yards further out. UNI regains the lead. It was a career long field goal, however.

    The UNI kickoff is short to just the 10 yard line and returned out past the Iowa 40 but there were fouls by both teams (offsides by UNI and holding on Iowa) on the play so we will rekick.

    The second kickoff is kicked out of bounds. Iowa will get it at their own 35. We have 2:06 left in the opening qtr.

    Weisman catches the pass for 12 for a first down on the first play.

    Bullock gets four on the next play to send Iowa to the UNI 49.
