FARGO, N.D.--I am in the Fargodome and it is the first time seeing the new turf on the floor. This turf looks impressive and much better than the old style Astrotuf that was here before. And what a game I have today with the #3 and #1 ranked teams respectively meeting in this one.

Winter has come early to the north country with a little snow on the ground with temperatures right now in the lower 40s. I drove throw some snow showers on my way to North Dakota last night. But it is a nice 70 degrees inside this facility and it is good we have a roof over our heads today.

Like my column for this week, I mentioned that these two teams seem like mirror images of each other. The offenses to me seem to be very close. We shall see how much the one game suspension of starting running back Sam Ojuri has on the Bison but I believe his backup John Crockett showed more in last week's win over Northern Iowa so I don't think there will be much of a drop off for NDSU.

The defenses I would have a slight edge to the Bison. Plus this is homecoming and around 19,000 fans are expected to pack in the Fargodome to provide the home field advantage to NDSU.

I think the key for the Penguins will be to score first to take some of the crowd momentum down. If NDSU scores early and gets up, it will keep the crowd in the game and keep the Penguins from audiablizing like they like to do at the line of scrimmage.

As I mentioned in my column, I think NDSU will win a closely contested game and will likely win the turnover margin to do so.

But we shall see. YSU owns a win over Pittsburgh on the road so it is not out of question to think they can do something similar today.

Tee minus 20 minutes to kickoff. Can't wait for this one to start.

    NDSU gets a holding call to send YSU 10 yards forward to the NDSU 33.

    1st & 10 from there. Cook drops a short pass that looked like a screen play.

    2nd & 10 from the NDSU 33. Hess scrambles for 14 yards but there is a holding call on YSU to send them back.

    2nd & 20 from the NDSU 43. Christian Bryant catches the pass for 9.

    3rd & 11 from the NDSU 34. Pass is overthrown on the play but there appears to be a foul on NDSU for a roughing the passer call to give YSU a first down at the NDSU 19.

    1st & 10 from the NDSU 19. Hess on the option keeper for two.

    2nd & 8 from the NDSU 17. Hess is hit hard as thows and it is too wide for his receiver.

    3rd & 8 from the NDSU 17. Hess has to just throw it away as he is being pressured again.

    YSU will go for it appears.

    The student section for NDSU is starting to chant "OVERRATED" YSU calls a timeout.

    Hess is sacked by LB Littlejohn from NDSU to turn the ball over to the Bison with 26 seconds.

    NDSU has a new Fargodome attendence record with 19,065.

    NDSU takes over with a Crockett 8 yard on first down as the 3rd qtr clock expires.

    NDSU lead 45-7 and will have a 2nd & 2 from their own 33 when we return to play for the 4the qtr.

    The starters are still in there suprising for me. NDSU gets a first down on another 3rd down conversion on a scramble by Jensen.

    NDSU converts yet another 3rd down with a short Crockett run to take the ball out to their own 46.

    Emotions are running bad for Youngstown State as Dale Peterman had a hit after the whistle blew. NDSU is down to the YSU 34.

    NDSU just methodically is moving the ball down the field on this drive and cutting the clock down. Gebhart gets a nice 11 yard pass play down to the YSU21.

    I don't think anyone had this game being a blowout. NDSU proves that they might have the best defense in the country and not too shabby of an offense.

    This last drive is stalled at the YSU 17 for a 34 yard FG attempt by Keller, which is good.

    NDSU moves its lead to 48-7 with 7:20 left in the game.

    Looking at the FCS scoreboard, I see that Southern Illinois is defeating Illinois State 17-0 so NDSU might now have the inside track for the Missouri Valley Football Conference title.

    YSU puts in the backup players on their next drive and currently has a 4th & 2 and they will go for it at the NDSU 41.

    NDSU holds and will take over the ball from there.

    NDSU also puts in the backups on offense.

    NDSU moves the ball down to the YSU 36 but stalls and will punt.

    All is going right for NDSU today. The punt is downed at the YSU 3.

    We are down to just 1:52 left in the game as many fans are heading for the exits to beat the traffic rush out of the Fargodome.

    YSU runs three plays up the middle for little gain. That is it. This game is over.

    FINAL

    NORTH DAKOTA STATE 45 YOUNGSTOWN STATE 7.

    It is amazing how dominate NDSU seemed in this game pitting two top three ranked teams in the country.
