FARGO, N.D.--I am in the Fargodome and it is the first time seeing the new turf on the floor. This turf looks impressive and much better than the old style Astrotuf that was here before. And what a game I have today with the #3 and #1 ranked teams respectively meeting in this one.

Winter has come early to the north country with a little snow on the ground with temperatures right now in the lower 40s. I drove throw some snow showers on my way to North Dakota last night. But it is a nice 70 degrees inside this facility and it is good we have a roof over our heads today.

Like my column for this week, I mentioned that these two teams seem like mirror images of each other. The offenses to me seem to be very close. We shall see how much the one game suspension of starting running back Sam Ojuri has on the Bison but I believe his backup John Crockett showed more in last week's win over Northern Iowa so I don't think there will be much of a drop off for NDSU.

The defenses I would have a slight edge to the Bison. Plus this is homecoming and around 19,000 fans are expected to pack in the Fargodome to provide the home field advantage to NDSU.

I think the key for the Penguins will be to score first to take some of the crowd momentum down. If NDSU scores early and gets up, it will keep the crowd in the game and keep the Penguins from audiablizing like they like to do at the line of scrimmage.

As I mentioned in my column, I think NDSU will win a closely contested game and will likely win the turnover margin to do so.

But we shall see. YSU owns a win over Pittsburgh on the road so it is not out of question to think they can do something similar today.

Tee minus 20 minutes to kickoff. Can't wait for this one to start.

    Youngstown State wins the coin toss and will receive the opening kickoff.

    We are ready to go. The Dome is rocking now in anticipation for the opening kickoff. Actually, NDSU likely would have defered if they won the toss so this actually plays exactly what they would want.

    Demond Hymes returns to opening kick to their own 26.

    Jamaine Cook fumbles the first play from scrimmage and NDSU recovers at the YSU 31. NDSU takes over under a very quite Dome now.

    Zach Vraa gets nine on a pass from Brock Jensen.

    2 & 1 from the YSU 22 and John Crockett gets down to the 11 on the ground.

    Travis Williams sacks Jensen on the 1st down play back to the 17

    2nd & 16 from there. Crockett gets six down to the 11 to set up a 3rd & 10 for the Bison.

    Jenson runs for 10 but fumbles there. NDSU, however, recovers to set up a 1st & goal for NDSU at the YSU 1.

    Adam Keller's extra point is good.

    NDSU 7 YSU 0 with 11:40 left in the 1st qtr.

    Hymes returns to the YSU 26 just as he did in the opening kickoff. The dome is getting load again.

    Kintrell Disher with a nice come back route and catch from Kurt Hess for a 11 yard gain to the 37.

    1st & 10 at the 37. Hess keeps for a two yard gain.

    2nd & 10 at the YSU 39. Andre Stubbs with a swing pass that gets good yardage ot he NDSU 40.

    Stubbs gets 6 on an end around to the NDSU 34.

    2nd & 4 from the NDSU 34. Cook gets a huge gain up the middle to the NDSU 18. Gain of 16.

    1st & 10 at NDSU 18. Cook gets down to the 12 for a six yard gain.

    2nd & 4 from the NDSU 12. Cook with a catch down to the NDSU 6 with a gain of six.

    1st & goal from the NDSU 6. Hymes with a carry for three yards.

    2nd & goal from the NDSU 3.

    2nd & goal from the NDSU 3. Cook gets stuffed at the line but lunges forward to the 1.

    3rd & goal from the NDSU 1. The dome is as loud as it can be but Hess hits Carson Sharbaugh in the end zone for the YSU touchdown.

    David Brown hits the extra point.

    NDSU 7 YSU 7, 6:08 left in the 1st qtr.

    Key drive for the Penguins on the past drive to tie the game in my opinion. A stop there would have inspired the NDSU crowd and defense further.

    Let's see what NDSU does when they have to go the length of the field.

    Kickoff goes deep into the end zone and is downed. NDSU will have it 1st & 10 at their own 25 to start this drive.

    Derrick Lang with the ball carry with a three yard gain.

    2nd & 7 from the NDSU 28. Jensen with a deep pass try to Vraa but goes incomplete.

    3rd & 7. Key 3rd down. Trevor Gebhart with a nice catch and nice throw by Jensen to the NDSU 43.

    Lang with a nice sweep to the left for an 11 yard gain and another NDSU 1st down.

    1st & 10 from the YSU 46--Jensen with a 46 yard pass to Vraa on a flee flicker play that worked to perfection.

    PAT is good.

    NDSU 14 YSU 7 with 4:23 left in the 1st qtr.
