Just got my first fix for football in Des Moines

Well, my two sons and I went to the Drake spring game tonight. It was good to see some live action and the weather was about as good as it could be in mid-April in the middle of America in Iowa--kickoff at around 65 degrees without acloud in the sky.

Here are some photos from the game, along with some of my sons. All enjoyed and my younger son has become a Drake fan--wanting the shirt he was wearing after a trip to the Drake Book store before the game.

    Just to expand a little on the game. Two 13-minute halves were played between the defense (Blue team) against the offense (White team) with points awarded for defensive forced punts (or stops on 4th down) and turnovers for the defense (and could also score if the turnover went for a TD). The offense scored on first downs along with the normal touchdowns, field goals and point after conversion kicks.

    The defense looked in fall form, in my opinion. They created three turnnovers--two interceptions and a fumble to win the game rather easily 51-21. Drake returns 14 starters overall but most are on defense and it showed in this game.

    Remember, Drake finished 8-3 last year overall with two of their losses coming from Butler and Dayton in their last two games of the season. The other loss was to South Dakota early on.
