Seven seniors and one team were honored by the Yale Athletics Department with awards at the annual senior student-athlete reception Saturday afternoon at the Lanman Center in Payne Whitney Gymnasium. The women’s fencing team earned the Brodhead Award for highest team grade point average. Sam Haig (Greenwich, Conn.) of the men’s squash team, Heather May (Newport Beach, Calif.) of the coed and women’s sailing teams and Alyssa Zupon (Basking Ridge, N.J.) of the women’s ice hockey team were the recipients of the Ford Student-Athlete Community Outreach Award. Dakota McCoy (Wexford, Pa.) of the women’s track and field team and Patrick O’Keefe (Pittsford, N.Y.) of the lightweight crew team were the recipients of the Kiphuth Student-Athlete Distinction Award. Lexy Adams (Lancaster, Pa.) of the field hockey team and Collin Bibb (San Antonio, Texas) of the football team were the recipients of the Meyer Humanitarian Award.

Alvin Wyatt, the winningest football coach in Bethune-Cookman history, will learn next week whether he will add another “W” to his win column — only this time it would be against his old university which he is suing for $1.2 million, accusing it of breach of contract.
Wyatt, 65, is suing B-CU, accusing it of breach of contract and age discrimination after he was fired in 2009 and replaced by then-39-year-old Brian Jenkins. Circuit Judge Terence R. Perkins said he would issue a ruling on Wednesday after the nonjury trial this week at the City Island Courthouse Annex.

David Jones caught a 40-yard touchdown pass from Thomas Carter on a slotback option play with 36 seconds left in the Portland State Spring Game, giving the Viking offense a 20-13 win over the Viking defense. The game, played with a modified scoring system, took place at Evergreen High School.

ELON, N.C. – On Saturday, May 11, 15 middle-school children spent a full day with six Elon football players learning what life is like as a football student-athlete. The kids from Turrentine and Hawfields Middle Schools found out what Blake Thompson, Akeem Langham, David Williams, Clay Johnson, Tony Thompson and Mike Quinn experience on a daily basis while in season. The eight-hour day simulated what a typical day of school and athletics is like, including weights, classes, film and practice.

Game times for Eastern Illinois five home football games have been set for the 2013 season as the Panthers will defend their Ohio Valley Conference regular season title at O'Brien Field. The home schedule includes a season opening night game with in-state rival Illinois State along with afternoon contests for the four OVC games including Family Weekend against Eastern Kentucky and Homecoming against Southeast Missouri.
