The University at Albany football team put on shoulder pads on Friday for the first time since the 2012 season ended almost five months ago.
“I think we’re ready to go,” redshirt junior linebacker Alex Helmer said. “Definitely ready to get the pads on and smack around a little bit.”
It will be more than a little, according to head coach Bob Ford, whose team started spring practice this week in preparation for its move up to the rugged Colonial Athletic Association in the fall.
