At Lafayette College's recent football media day, coach Frank Tavani introduced every one of his 27 seniors but one, paused, asked if he forgot anybody, and Hayes sheepishly stood up. The 6-foot-1, 185-pound Kittatinny High School graduate and Newton, N.J., native must have been equally invisible to opposing defenses last fall.
